Scott Ahola
CIO
Technology & Industry Leadership
As CIO, Scott has led Ahola's software development and technology functions for more than 30 years. His focus on accuracy earned Ahola multiple IRS Magnetic Media awards for electronically filing more than 500,000 tax returns without error.
Scott enrolled Ahola in the Social Security Administration's MMREF pilot program to improve electronic W-2 transmission, a system later adopted nationwide. He also led Ahola to become the first company to voluntarily file Ohio withholding tax electronically, and worked with RITA and CCA to design electronic remittance programs for local taxes — both of which were subsequently adopted statewide.
Software Development & Innovation
Scott oversaw the development of Ahola's first signature payroll processing software, Generations, which allowed clients to transmit data over the Internet at a time when that capability was an innovation. The system gave small business owners greater flexibility and control over their payroll processes.
His engineering team also developed Ahola's Family Pay system, which created separate payroll tracks for family and non-family employees within a company, providing enhanced security and confidentiality.
Education & Professional Affiliations
Scott holds a bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a major in Management Information Systems from Bowling Green State University. He is a member of the Independent Payroll Providers Association and the American Payroll Association.
